1 Where mists upon the mountain swirled
far up beyond the common world,
disciples with astonished eyes
saw Jesus in transfigured guise.

2 There, raised up from his servanthood,
Christ 'mid the Law and Prophets stood,
and as the whirling vapor broke,
with Moses and Elijah spoke.

3 Then Peter, seeking to prolong
the moment's awe, so brief but strong,
proposed to build three shrines to stand
there on that high and holy land.

4 Enveloped in a frightening cloud,
a voice from heaven came clear and loud:
"This is my Son. I am well pleased.
O hear him now!" Their fears were eased.

5 Yet Jesus warned them not to speak
of what had passed upon this peak
until the death and rising passed
and all things were made new at last.
